How to Create a WeChat QR Code

The three-step version:

1. Open WeChat on your phone and go to the Me tab, tap your profile, and open My QR Code. Save the image or use a QR reader to reveal the underlying WeChat share URL for your account.
2. Paste that URL into the field above and click Generate.
3. Download the QR code image or grab the HTML snippet for your website.

How to Scan a WeChat QR Code (Mobile and Desktop)

On mobile (iOS or Android): open WeChat, tap the plus icon in the top-right of the Chats screen, and choose Scan. Point the camera at the QR code and WeChat opens the linked profile, article, mini-program, or payment prompt automatically. The same Scan tool is usually available under the Discover tab as well.

On desktop: WeChat's desktop client is primarily used to sign in and chat, not to scan QR codes with a webcam. The common desktop pattern is the reverse: the desktop app shows a login QR code that you scan with the WeChat mobile app to authenticate. To scan a QR code image you found on a webpage, save the image and use the mobile Scan tool, or use an external QR reader in your browser to extract the underlying URL.

WeChat outside mainland China: account, feature, and payment behavior can differ by region. If a scanned QR opens a mini-program or a WeChat Pay flow that is not available in your region, that is a region gating issue on WeChat's side, not a problem with the QR code itself.

WeChat QR Code Not Working?

If your WeChat QR code is not opening the expected profile or chat, check these common causes:

• Wrong URL pasted into the generator — the input must be the full share URL you got by scanning your own My QR Code image (not your WeChat ID text). If you paste just a display name or WeChat ID, the QR will not resolve on scan.
• Expired personal QR — WeChat rotates the share URL behind personal QR codes on a schedule. If your QR stops working after a while, open My QR Code in WeChat again, re-extract the fresh URL, and regenerate the code.
• Camera permission blocked — the scanner needs camera access. In your phone settings, allow WeChat access to the camera and try again.
• WeChat not installed — the scanned URL is a WeChat deep link. Devices without WeChat installed will fall back to a browser page or show nothing, depending on the OS. The person scanning needs the WeChat app.
• Print quality too low — QR codes have error correction, but a blurry or low-contrast print can still fail. Reprint at higher resolution with strong contrast (dark code on a light background) and enough quiet space around the code.
