File Training

Train your chatbot with uploaded documents. Boei reads the text content and teaches it to your chatbot automatically.

How to get there: Go to Setup → Chatbot in the top menu → click your chatbot → Training → Files tab.

Uploading Files

  1. Click Upload
  2. Select one or more files from your computer
  3. The chatbot extracts and learns from the content automatically

Supported formats:

  • PDF documents
  • Word documents (.doc, .docx)
  • Text files (.txt)
  • Markdown files (.md)

Files up to 10 MB are accepted.

When to Use Files

Files work best for large reference documents and bulk data:

  • Resource directories and partner lists (spreadsheets)
  • Product catalogs
  • PDF reports or guides
  • Long-form documentation
  • Internal handbooks or manuals

The system automatically processes files so your chatbot can search through them. This is the easiest way to add large amounts of existing content without copying and pasting.

Managing Files

The file list shows each uploaded file with:

  • Name - Original filename
  • Status - Trained, Processing, Error, or Not trained
  • Size - How much content was extracted
  • Credit cost - How many page credits this file uses (every 5,000 characters = 1 credit, minimum 1)

You can:

  • Retrain a file if you've updated it
  • Untrain a file to remove it from the chatbot's knowledge but keep it in the list
  • Delete a file to remove it entirely
  • Tag files if content tagging is enabled

Both untraining and deleting free up your page credits immediately.

Tips

  • Spreadsheets work well for structured data (e.g., a directory of organizations with names, phone numbers, and descriptions)
  • Make each row or section self-contained in large files so each piece of information makes sense on its own
  • Check credit cost on large files. A 50-page PDF might use several page credits. See Training credits for plan limits.
